Wheeler, a graduate of McKinley Technical Highschool, reflects on her family’s history within the city’s public education system. Her mother’s insistence of teaching Black history in their home, and her father’s stories of athletic achievement at Armstrong Technical High School highlight a spirit of excellence and pride maintained by Black Washingtonians throughout the history of DC’s schools.
